Deering
Use this pull-down list to find more information about some of the Deering and Deering Vega models we carry:

Vega Old Tyme Wonder (photo):
This maple-necked banjo has a warm, satin stain on its nicely shaped neck. It has an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays and a traditional Vega star at the 5th fret. This model comes standard from Deering with a nicely scooped fingerboard. The peghead is also classic Vega, and it has an ebony overlay.

This instrument comes with Deering's planetary tuners (and a geared 5th string tuner, of course), and a "Vega-style" armrest (sometimes called a "hot dog" armrest), and No-Knot tailpiece. The 3-ply maple pot has a shaped tone rim, and attaches to the neck with a coordinator rod. The one currently in stock is set up with a Fiberskyn head.

This banjo lists for $1769* including its Deering 'Traditional" hardshell case. Out of Stock

  • Goodtime Banjos (photo)
  • Open back model:
These are great beginner instruments, being well made, easy to play, and easy on the pocketbook. I recommend these highly, not only as beginner banjos, but as "beaters." That is, I find they're great, lightweight banjos that tote easily on a camping trip or on a picnic. They're inexpensive yet sound good and play wonderfully--it's what I take when I go to the beach or camping!!

The open-backed model lists at $499, and sells for only $379. Add a Deering embroidered gig bag for $57, or upgrade to a TKL hardshell case for $85. Now In Stock.

This banjo is available in a "ZEPP Music Recommended Starter Package" .

    Some variations on this theme:

  • Deluxe (photo)
Slick mahogany instrument with diamond inlays in its ebony fingerboard. Beautiful, gloss-finished mahogany neck and resonator. Cool new inlay in the headstock, too.

This banjo sounds great, looks sharp, and is a wonderful instrument with professional sound and playability.

Video see and hear Steve Dilling of IIIrd Tyme Out playing one of these banjos (5.3mb).

Lists for $3244* including the Deering "Traditional" HSC. Now in Stock.

  • Black Diamond (photo)
Gloss-finished mahogany instrument with engraved diamond inlays and a star made of diamonds on the headstock. Black head(!) looks great with the black binding on the resonator. Slick.

Lists for $3649* including the Deering "Traditional" HSC. Now In Stock.

  • Maple Blossom (photo)
Gloss-finished maple instrument with "hearts and flowers-like" inlays in the ebony fingerboard. It also has a handsome inlay pattern in the ebony headstock overlay.

This instrument has a warm, rich color (it's not as red as the photos suggest) on its resonator and neck.

Great bluegrass sound, with a classic look, and the unbeatable Deering neck.
Lists for $3998* including the Deering "Traditional" HSC. Now in Stock.

  • Golden Era (photo)
This model is a copy of classic, pre-war bluegrass banjos, complete with rosewood fingerboard, a maple neck, the "hearts-and-flowers" inlay pattern, and 20-hole tone ring. A really nice banjo--it produces beautiful, clear highs, and rich, warm lows--I'm truly impressed. See also the Golden Wreath model, below.

And it lists for only $4661*, including the Deering "Traditional" hard shell case. Temporarily Out of Stock

  • Golden Wreath (photo)
Like the Golden Era (above) this model is a copy of classic, pre-war bluegrass banjos, but this one has a mahogany neck and resonator, an ebony fingerboard, with the classic , "wreath" inlay pattern (as well as the wreath in the headstock), and 20-hole tone ring.

Unlike the mahogany wreath model made by the company whose initials are "Gibson," the Deering offering has multiple triple binding on the fingerboard and the resonator sides; even the purfling rings on the resonator are multiple (the Gibson purfling is triple-binding, the rest is single binding).

Beautifully made, great playing, and it lists for only $4646*, including its the Deering "Traditional" hard shell case. Out of Stock.

  • John Hartford (photo).
Beautiful "Steamboat Gothic" inlays on this maple instrument. Has a unique, granadillo wood tone ring, which gives it a rich, deep sound.

Available with an optional, "Pop-On" resonator and tube-w/o-flange construction (unlike the one in the photo) to make this quick and easy to use as an open-back, as well. Also available at extra cost with 2 extra, high frets (24 total to permit 2 octaves per string).

Lists for $4459* with its the Deering "Traditional" hard shell case. Temporarily Out of Stock.
